Lounge Wear......
Simplicity 3696
Pattern Description:
Misses Pajama Pants/Shorts, Robe, and also Knit Nightgown or Top
Pattern Sizing:
I chose XL because I love my robes to be big and fluffy....So the bigger the better...and these were Christmas presents so its hard to measure someone without tipping them off to their present...
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
I think it did, I mean the pattern is self explanatory that you really don't need the instructions if you have a basic understanding of how to construct garments. So other than that I was okay.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
I'm a rebel without a cause really. I didn't need the instructions and just matched the notches and I was okay. But if your a newbie I recommend you follow the instructions although they looked a bit confusing to me.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Dislike: Well When I was constructing this garment for some reason one side was bigger than the other when it came to adding the sleeves which really confused me. So I had to modify this in order to make sure the fit would lay flat.
- I must be used to men pajama bottoms because I don't feel this left a lot of crotch space....lol. So I'd consider adding a couple inches to the top for the waist band....
- I also had to add a couple of inches to the band that goes around the entire garment. I just aligned the back and moved my way down. It turned out to be a few inches longer than the garment but it was okay. It would have been terrible if it was shorter.
- I also recommend having the loops for the belt two go between 2 inches to 3 inches from the recommended placing area only because I noticed they were way to high and it would literally close under my bosoms. So I'd rather have it sit on my natural waist line.
Liked:
- I liked the sleeves I mean its new, at first I wasn't completely sold but then after it came together I was like OMG it wouldn't have pictured it any other way.
Fabric Used:
I bought flannel which was on sale at my local Joanns which I was excited.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
- Yes I made a lot of alterations.
- I shortened the sleeves because they are ridiculous long, like a giants arms. So I'd probably trim it down a few. Also the pant legs were insanely long as well. I'd measured my inseam and then estimated my friend's and well came to a very happy compromise. She is about two to three inches taller than me. So I'm sure she would have been fine but I'm 5'4, the curse of the shortness....she's 5'6 or 5'7.
- I modified a lot of lengths, the band I made longer, sleeves/bottoms made them shorter.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes I would these are actually Xmas presents that I was making for my friends so I have one down and 1 more to go.
Conclusion:
I don't like leaving exposed seams because they don't look clean to me and sadly I don't have a serger that would finish them off. I had to use the old Hong Kong finish for the first robe. Although the next one I will consider making it reversible that way she can wear it both ways, the seams will be concealed and it will be a little warmer...
Update: I finished the second one and my notes are the same but I made it reversible.
